Our Dharma Talk this week will be by Ōshin Jennings.

We ask for a $20 donation to cover the costs of our Sunday Program. Payment can be made via the donate button on our website or in person at our donation box.

Ōshin Jennings is the founder of No Barriers Zen, a Zen Buddhist community in Washington, DC and online. Ōshin is the first known Deaf Buddhist priest and received Dharma transmission from Shoho Michael Newhall in 2022. He has made it his mission to use his experiences as a Deaf and disabled practitioner to help make meditation practices and the Dharma more accessible. Ōshin is also a psychotherapist and artist, and he is working on translating the sutras into ASL with his community.

Jikoji gladly gathers each spring to practice together and to celebrate the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha at the culmination of Tanjo-e Sesshin. All are invited to join the joy and ease of zazen meditation, the support of sangha and community, and the beauty surrounding the temple. A special family and children’s celebration ceremony with tea and cake and offerings to the baby Buddha will be held on Sunday, April 16 at 2 pm.

To help maintain as best we can the intimacy and integrity of an in-person gathering, we ask all who join us online to please observe the following practices.

  1. Sign in using real name.
  2. Keep microphone muted unless speaking during discussion periods.
  3. Maintain zendo silence during meditation periods and while waiting for discussion period to begin.
  4. Keep camera on and maintain facial visibility during discussion period.
  5. Anonymous participation online will not be permitted, as it would not be permitted in person.
