Zazen - Service - Dharma Talk
Jikoji remains closed for now, but our Sunday Program is going online. Join us from wherever you are, in our virtual zendo, for a morning of meditation, service, and a Dharma Talk.
Our Dharma Talk this week will be by Bryan Gaynor, a founding Jikoji member and long-time activist, and the topic of “Buddhist Activism: An Oxymoron or the Buddha Way?”
OUR SCHEDULE
10:00 a.m. zazen (sitting meditation)
10:40 kinhin (walking meditation)
10:50 zazen
11:20 service
11:40 talk
Bryan Gaynor began a lifelong commitment to zazen in 1979 when he met his teacher, Kobun Roshi. He has been a Jikoji sangha member since its founding in 1982.
Bryan’s commitment to activism began as a monitor in the 1965 March from Selma to Montgomery Alabama. That opportunity laid the groundwork for continued activist work in a variety of ways, including legal representation of U.S. political prisoners, successful environmental litigation to expand wilderness areas throughout California and, most recently, as one of the founding trustees of a large foundation whose sole purpose is the preservation and restoration of native plants and wildlife throughout the country.
In this time of political, social and environmental upheaval, Bryan will connect the dots between Buddhist practice and how it may support interested practitioners in becoming successful change agents to assist with much needed healing around the world.
