Michael Schnee is a scientist who studied the physiology of hearing for twenty years, most recently at Stanford University from which he retired in 2020. He was introduced to Zen Buddhism and Jikoji in July of 2018 by a student from his lab and has been coming back ever since. His first meditation was one of those rare "a ha" moments in life where he realized this is what he had been looking for! He finds the philosophy of Zen to mesh quite well with his science background. Michael has recently become a resident at Jikoji where he is a passionate Tenzo and caretaker. Michael is also an artist whose work is on display in the community building as well as being available as part of our current fundraising effort. He will discuss how he came to Buddhism and what effect Zen has had on his life as well as impressions of resident life.
