Part of our Practice Period
Wednesday Evenings:
Dinner, Discussion, Meditation.

Our 2020 Practice Period (Ango) of more intensive practice includes weekly Wednesday evening book discussions – Feb 19, Feb 26, March 4, March 11, March 18, March 25 – on our study text, Dale S. Wright’s The Six Perfections: Buddhism & the Cultivation of Character. Our Shuso (head student) for Practice Period will be Connie Ralls.

This Wednesday, February 26, we will look at Chapter 2, “The Perfection of Morality,” on traditional and contemporary Buddhist views on the Perfection of Morality.

OUR STUDY TEXT
In classical Mahayana Buddhism, the “six perfections” – pāramitā – define the meaning of human enlightenment. Buddhist enlightenment is understood to be a particular way of being in the world, a way of being in which six distinct dimensions of human character have been cultivated to the level of excellence—generosity, morality, tolerance, energy, meditation, and wisdom. In this book, Dale Wright explores each of these six dimensions of character and the kinds of self‐cultivation that Buddhists correlate with them in order to assess the “six perfections” as ethical ideals suitable for contemporary global culture.

If you would like to be part of the practice period but are unable to join in daily practice at Jikoji, participating through home practice is an option. Our Shuso (head student), Connie Ralls, can offer guidance in setting up a daily practice at home. Please write info@jikoji.org for more information.
