Kobun's Teachings: How to Sit

Highlights from Kobun includes highlights from several of Koban Chino Ottogawa Roshi's talks.

The pages below are the gist of a series of Kobun's talks. In the talks he addresses many important aspects of Zazen meditation, and of Shikantaza. Kobun was a Zen teacher who taught Zen meditation from the 1960s until his accidental death in July 2002. The talks above are selected from among thousands of Kobun's talks. Although the recordings and transcriptions were not perfect, and some editing has been done to improve readability, the content is very representative both of Kobun's intensely personal teaching of Zazen and of Shikan Taza, the core of the meditational practices taught by the Soto school of Zen Buddhism in Japan.
